18 Nov 2011Charity project in Japan

On November 9, 2011 the owner of Polimaster group of companies Mrs. Ludmila Antonovskaya visited Minamisoma, which is located on the border of the 20 km zone around Fukushima Daiichi NPP. The main purpose of  the trip was to take part in the launch of a charity project. Within the project it is envisaged to provide a number of PM1208M Wrist Gamma Indicators for pregnant women living in Minamisoma (Fukushima Prefecture).

The basic idea and implementation of the project  is the merit of Japan Third Party Co Ltd, which has been promoting Polimaster products on Japanese market since 2011. Japan Third Party Co Ltd is a partner of Marubeni Utility Services, Ltd., the official Polimaster distributor in Japan. The project was also assisted by the Members of the House of Representatives of Japan and the Members of the Special Committee on the restoration of the areas suffered from "Great Eastern Japan Earthquake" Mr. Tsutomu Takamura and Mr. Mito Kakizawa.

Within the project one hundred of  Polimaster devices PM1208M, used for permanent monitoring of background radiation levels and measuring of personal dose rate, were given for a one-year free use to pregnant women living in the city Minamisoma. Japan Third Party Co Ltd will provide assistance and support in the operation of gamma indicators, as well as control of their functionality and personal reading histories and advising the women who have decided to take part in the project.

During this visit Ludmila Antonovskaya met with the Mayor of Minamisoma  Mr.Sakurai, as well as with Mrs. Saito, one of the leaders of the Association of assistance in upbringing of Fukushima’s children.

The Japanese media showed a great interest in the event too. The journalists of newspapers  "Kahoku shinpō" and "The Fukushima minyu", TV channels Fukushima FTV and other media got the answers to their questions.

Ludmila Antonovskaya told women about Chernobyl disaster that Belarus passed through more than 25 years ago. Belarusians like no one else understand the problems and are aware of the risks of the Japanese who live in the contaminated areas. So the development of new instruments for radiation control in Polimaster’s R&D department is made considering the experience received.

Ludmila being a representative not only of Polimaster, but of all Belarusian women and mothers, emphasized how important it is for women to pay attention to the radiation control, by themselves to provide continuous monitoring of radiation background and to monitor the level of personal radiation rate for the sake of healthy children birth and future health of the nation.

Mrs. Ludmila Antonovskaya has been wearing her PM1208M Wrist Gamma Indicator for many years.  The dosimeter showed the results of about 0.5 μSv/h in Minamisoma. It is around the same readings that were shown by the stationary dosimeter at the entrance to mayor's office.  But such areas like those close to Minamisoma, the village Itate for ex., represent a serious concern. When the territory was crossed the device showed the level of 3 μSv/h and more, and that is a serious excess of a normal background level. In such circumstances a continuous personal radiation control for women expecting a child is very vital.
